Feast of Corpus Christi

Austrians celebrate a very special custom ten days after Pentecost - always on a Thursday - the Feast of Corpus Christi. The focus of the festival is the processions, the parish priest walks under a sky held aloft by four so-called "sky bearers". Four altars are approached in the procession. These are usually decorated with a carpet of flowers with an ecclesiastical motif by the Catholic associations of the village. Colloquially we also speak of the "Prangertag", because not only the houses and streets were decorated, but also the locals themselves dressed up in their best festive garb and thus pilloried. All the local clubs participate in this festival and then usually let this end comfortably in the village square of the municipality.
